Votive Stupa
Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhgaya
Numerous votive stupas dot the temple grounds.
They are expressions of faith and devotion, and do not hold relics.
This bell-shaped stupa, in front of the temple, has been extensively
restored; its surface is decorated by numerous very small, repetitive designs of the seated Buddha, by larger images of the Buddha and
bodhisattvas, and by some modern paint. A three-towered
finial rests upon its flattened top.
