Cenotaphs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan

After Shah Jahan died, he was buried alongside Mumtaz by their son Aurangzeb. Mumtaz Mahal's cenotaph occupies the center of the space, while Shah Jahan's slightly larger cenotaph is awkwardly sandwiched between Mumtaz Mahal's cenotaph and the surrounding enclosure screen. It is not known for sure whether this had been Shah Jahan's original intention, but in any case it is a moving and romantic ending to their story.
