Courtyard of Ramesses IILuxor, Egypt (plan) This is a view of the south side of Ramesses' courtyard, where standing and seated colossi of the great Ramesses dominate the frontage of Amenhotep III's colonnade. As at Karnak, successive rulers enlarged the Luxor temple by enclosure. When we look down the colonnade we are generally seeing into the older parts of the building, although some Greco-Roman chapels were added later behind Amenhotep's courtyard. |
