Luxor, colossal head of Ramesses II

Colossal Head of Ramesses II

Luxor, Egypt (plan)

The head of Ramesses II, now separated from its original statue, has been remounted in the first courtyard of the temple. Exclusive of its base, the head is about a person's height. Ramesses' iconic self-possession seems to place him above merely human concerns, in contrast to the humane portrait of Nectanebo on the previous page.
