Anubis and Seti

Temple of Seti I. Abydos.

The two photos here are continuous. Anubis, god of the cemetery, holds a crook and flail in his right hand and a sceptre in his left. At the top of the sceptre djed, ankh, and other symbols extend life to Seti on the right. Seti, wearing the double crown of Egypt, holds ankh and a mace in his left hand.

Anubis was the original god of Abydos. He was usurped by Osiris, who demoted him to be Osiris' helper in the mummification process.
