Cleopatra and Caesarion

This relief from the south wall of the temple shows Cleopatra VII preceeded by Caesarion, her son by Julius Caesar. To ensure the succession, Cleopatra appointed Caesarion as co-ruler of Egypt at the age of three, although Cleopatra continued to hold all the power. When he and Cleopatra were killed by the victorious Octavian in 30 BC., Caesarion was only 17 years old.
