Colossal Head of Akhenaten

Luxor Museum

This large portrait head of Akhenaten illustrates the new realistic style, called "Amarna" art after the pharaoh's capital city. Although stylized, the strangeness of Akhenaten's facial features is not glossed over. Various medical conditions, including Marfan's syndrome, have been proposed as the cause of his unusual appearance.
