Colossus of Ramesses IIKarnak The colossal statue was usurped by Pinedjem I (21st dynasty). It is located in front of Pylon II. One of Ramesses' queens, possibly his daughter Bint-Anath or even his first Great Royal Wife Nefertari, stands protected between the king's legs (closeup). The long-lived Ramesses ruled for 67 years (1279-1212 BC), dying at age 92, and producing more than 100 sons and numberless daughters. He married eight queens (Great Royal Wives) during the course of his long life: Nefertari, Istnofret, then three of his daughters (Bint-Anath, Meryetamun, and Nebettawy), followed by his sister Henutmire, and lastly two Hittite princesses. |
