The family vault of King Farouk of Egypt (1920-1965) contains his tomb and those of other family members. Farouk ascended the throne in 1936 and abdicated in 1952. Also buried here is Farouk's brother-in-law, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi, who ruled Iran from 1949 until his overthrow in 1979.
