Reconstructed WallTanis, Egypt This reconstructed wall fragment extends from Shoshenq's gateway (previous photo). The wall is a jumble of reused stones from other sites in Egypt; the center horizontal, for example, bears a cartouche of Ramesses II. The horizontal above it rests upside down; since the original wall was itself a hodge-podge, it would be difficult to verify the restoration. Identifying numbers were inked by the excavators on some of the blocks. |
