Hittite Princess

Tanis, Egypt

This closeup of the previous photo shows Ramesses' seventh queen, a Hittite princess named Maat-hor-neferu-ra. Her cartouche is visible in the text running down the side of the statue. The princess was married to Ramesses as part of his treaty with the Hittites - the earliest peace treaty on record. The princess' figure has been largely broken off, but her hand (resting on Ramesses' leg), arm, and feet are still visible.
