An opulent bridal chamber, like this one, would have been prepared for the wedding night of a new bride who had married into the family. The room is lavishly decorated with pierced hardwood screens, lanterns, and curtain swags of red and pink silk. It also, and deliberately, (it must be said) resembles the female genitalia.
