Six Dragons Inkstone
Eastern Han Dynasty, 160 AD
Henan Provincial Museum, Zhengzhou
This inkstone features a design of six swimming dragons in high relief on its cover. Their long necks and heads twist around the inscribed central knob. Waves and lotus petals are incised around the circumference. Ink was prepared by wetting and rubbing a stick of
dry ink against the flat surface of the stone (photo right).
