Eight Stupas

Ta'er Si, Xining

The first courtyard beyond the entrance contains eight stupas, dating from 1776, that commemorate eight major events in the life of Shakyamuni. The list of Eight Events is not fixed, but always includes the Buddha's Birth, Enlightenment, First Sermon, and Parinirvana.
