Terra-Cotta Warriors

Pit 1, Lishan Necropolis, Xi'an

A cohort of soldiers and horses appears in this close-up. The soldiers in this group wear identical armor, but some differences in hairstyle, hand positions, and facial features can be seen.

Originally the terra-cotta warriors were brightly painted, and supplied with new weapons, such as halberds (Ji) and crossbows, in perfect working condition. The wooden parts of those weapons have long since disintegrated, but their bronze parts (arrow and spear heads, and the metal triggers of the crossbows) continue to be recovered and studied.
