The "fat lady" style, seen here, is thought to date from the mid-ninth century, when emperor Xuanzong's beloved consort Yang Guifei presumably inspired this change in the canon of beauty. Her hairstyle and loosely-fitted robes seem to flatter this fuller type of figure.
