Great Goose Pagoda (Dayan Ta)
Xi'an
The stories of the pagoda are square in plan. The size of each story (length, width, and height) decreases from the bottom to the top of the building, which gives the effect of a tower of
increasingly smaller boxes stacked one upon the other. The walls of this pagoda are "battered,"
meaning that they slant inwards towards the center. Exterior decoration
is plain, with a sketch of pilasters and imitation (painted) bracketing.
