Standing Buddha

Tang Dynasty
Beilin Museum, Xi'an

This Tang-dynasty buddha is reminiscent of previous examples ([1], [2], [3], [4]) from the Northern Zhou and Sui dynasties, including details of posture and costume. Although technically assigned to the Tang dynasty, at least according to the museum label, this and the other statues are near contemporaries. All were created within a fairly short span of time (575 to 625), and are rather similar in stylistic terms. Artists and workshops, after all, don't go out of business just because the dynasty changes.
