Main Hall

Nanchan Si, Wutai County

This small and charming temple dates to the Tang dynasty: 782 AD. Along with Foguang Si, it is one of only four wooden temples in China to survive from so long ago. It is just three bays wide, and carries a hip-gable roof (next page). The raised platform, in front of the temple, is called a moon terrace.
