This strong bonsai is exhibited on the grounds, one of many that can be seen in most Chinese gardens. Here, the character of an upright and vigorous pine trunk is displayed by leaving much of it bare, except for a ring of green needles around its middle and a canopy of green on top, while a companion branch parallels its upward course like a faithful spouse.
