Pudong

Shanghai

Shanghai, an economic powerhouse ever since the British made it a free trade port in the mid-19th century, shows its modern face in Pudong across the Huangpu river. Photo left, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower rises above the skyline like some futuristic needle. Photo right, the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (tallest) and other skyscrapers. Not all of these buildings are fully occupied, a cautionary mention in these times (2006) of economic hyperbole.
