Administrative Hall

Confucius Family Mansion, Qufu

The Confucius Family Mansion (Kong Fu) occupies 40 acres just east of the Temple (previous pages); it was continuously occupied until the mid-20th century. Seen here is a five-bay administrative building in the front courtyard.

The posthumous honors that were paid to Confucius advanced his descendents in rank as well. In 1055 AD, the Song emperor enrolled the 46th lineal descendent of Confucius as hereditary Duke of Yansheng. The title remained in the family until it was abolished in 1935. The last Duke of Yansheng, named K'ung Te-ch'eng (Kong Decheng), was the 77th lineal descendent of Confucius; he died in Taiwan in 2008.
