Tiger Leaping Gorge
62 mi (100 km) NW of Lijiang, Yunnan province
The narrow mouth of the gorge discloses an amazing scene of boiling water, comparable only to the Niagra Falls of the United States and Canada; it must be seen to be appreciated.
In legend, a tiger once escaped hunters by leaping from shore to shore, across the perilous rock in the middle of the river; hence its popular name.
