This view, of the modern city of Kashgar, is a necessary corrective to the old-fashioned views of the Silk Road that are prominently displayed elsewhere on this website. Development in China (2007) is proceeding at a pace that can hardly be understood by anyone who hasn't been there. The old camel tracks upon the Silk Road have been replaced by four-lane highways, as China marches confidently on into the future.
