Muslim CemeteryAba Khoja Complex
Sometimes Muslim cemeteries are provided next to the mazars or shrines of notable religious leaders, as here. For another example, see the Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti in Fatehpur Sikri, India. The traditional graves seen here consist of a shallow burial below ground level; they are marked, above, by a solid arched cylinder that is usually, but not always, placed on top of a low platform. Muslims are buried lying on their right side, with their faces turned towards Mecca. |
