Leifeng Pagoda, Hangzhou
The upper floors of the pagoda are decorated with artworks, created in modern times, that portray Buddhist stories. The panel above shows the birth of the historical Buddha as his mother, center, grasps the branch of a sal tree. The great event is witnessed by directional guardians, and accompanied (upper left) by a celestial orchestra.
