Thousand Buddhas Cave

Fubo Hill, Guilin

The interior is carved with about 200 Buddhist images from the Tang and Song dynasties. The statues are carved in deep relief within narrow niches, being votive offerings for safe voyages by sea. There are single sculptures and triads (next page), and even a few pentads (photo). Some inscriptions are still visible (photo, base of lotus throne).
