In this lively painted-pottery composition, two children spin and balance on a pole that is supported by a strongman on his forehead. To the left, another member of the troupe bangs a pair of cymbals. Such performances are documented as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, for example in tomb bricks from Henan.
