Yamantaka

The multi-headed Vidyaraja Yamantaka (Jp. Daitoku, Ch. Ta Wei Te) can be identified by the ox upon which he rides. A complete set of the eight Vidyarajas flanks the central Buddha in this magnificent grotto (photo). Yamantaka is the directional guardian of the West, Amida's paradise.
