Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, is flanked by bodhisattvas Samantabhadra (Ch. Puxian, on elephant, left) and Manjushri (Ch. Wenshu, on erased tiger, right). Two faded disciples, Ananda and Kasyapa, are visible to the left and right of the Buddha's double halo.
