Ten Thousand Buddha Hall (Tathagata Hall)

Zhihua Si, Beijing

This impressive two-story hall (map) holds the temple's main Buddha image. The black roof tile on the temple's buildings indicates its non-imperial status; for all his power, Wang Zhen only rated as a commoner. Colored roof tiles were reserved for the nobility; green for princely buildings, or yellow for imperial ones.
