Great Wall of China

Badaling, NW of Beijing

The Great Wall is invaded today, not by warlike barbarian nomads, but by hordes of tourists and schoolchildren. With increasing prosperity, tourists in China these days are overwhelmingly from China itself: in 2012, there were 2.46 billion "domestic" tourists in China (that is, two-thirds of the entire population) vs. "only" 57 million from outside the mainland. Of that 57 million, about half were from Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and the other half from overseas. Source: EUSME Centre.
