Palace Of Heavenly PurityForbidden City, Beijing (map) The double-eaved Palace Of Heavenly Purity is the southernmost, and most important, palace of the inner court. This palace was where the emperor lived during his reign ("Kangxi slept here"), and where he was displayed in state following his death. A high platform supports the building, fronted by more of the huge bronze cauldrons that held water against the possibility of fire (see previous pages). Another feature, seen in the lower left corner, is a small stupa (photo) which is said to hold an interment. |
